Rooftop Apartments

Background: The Client had purchased an empty site on the fringes of Hamilton's CBD with the intention to develop a Multi Unit Apartment Complex. The Apartments had to be spacious with large outdoor areas and designed to maximise the northerly aspect of the site. An outdoor spa pool had to be incorporated into the design. The apartments had to be contempory but still maintain traditional values.

Solution: Strict Town Planning regulations and an unusually shaped site required a slightly different approach to designing this development. Large roof balconies provided the solution to outdoor living areas with expansive views and also provided an ideal area for the Spa Pools to be located. With the site being positioned on a street corner, this allowed flexibility in spatial design. Rather than a single Floor Plan repeated 5 times, each Apartment was individually designed to suit its location on the site. The front yard set back has allowed the units to maximise the Northern aspect while giving each Apartment its own feeling space, and also the added advantage of never being "built-out". Providing three separate driveway entries have also helped create a feeling of individuality to each apartment.
